A view from the partner community

Writing after GLPI Partners Day 2026, German partner Gravitate GmbH summed up two days of use cases and technical insight into GLPI 12 simply: GLPI is developing rapidly, and so is the international partner network shaping it. Behind that enthusiasm is a release with practical changes for service desks, managers and security teams. The detail below comes from Teclib's GLPI 12 guide and the official release notes.

1. A knowledge base people will use

The knowledge base has been rebuilt from scratch. Reading and editing happen in the same place, with a modern editor, an always-visible tree with favourites and drag-and-drop, public article sharing, comments anchored to specific passages, version comparison and translation in edit mode.

Categories disappear as a separate structure: articles can now contain other articles. On upgrade, existing categories are converted into articles automatically, but their visibility must be set again by an administrator. Plan that step, or your knowledge base will look empty on day one.

2. OLAs that follow the team

Until now a ticket carried a single OLA timer. When a ticket passed from networks to desktop support to applications, the accumulated delay could land on whoever touched it last. In GLPI 12, each team involved has its own deadline and its own late status.

For shared services and multi-team IT departments, that is a fairer and more accurate picture of where time is really spent. Custom reports built on the old OLA data will need rebuilding.

3. Security that is on by default

  • Session control. GLPI 12 tracks every active session, so administrators can see who is signed in and revoke any session. Useful when a laptop is lost or a password has been exposed, because changing the password alone does not end a session that is already open.
  • Step-up authentication. Some sensitive administrative actions ask you to confirm your identity again, using a two-factor code with your password as a fallback.
  • Protections by default. Requests from the GLPI server to the internal network are blocked unless explicitly authorised, and enabling inventory now requires you to choose an authentication method.
  • Privacy in one place. A Security menu brings together password policy and 2FA, and a Data and Privacy menu centralises retention and purge rules, which helps with UK GDPR housekeeping.

4. A sharper helpdesk and better dashboards

Documents attached to tickets can be hidden from requesters, users replaced on a ticket are notified automatically, and ticket search criteria can be restricted by profile. Dashboards gain filters for entity, multiple groups or statuses, SLA, technician and operating system, plus new panels such as computers by age.

5. API, accessibility and documentation

GLPI 12 introduces version 3 of the High-Level API alongside the previous versions, so existing integrations keep working. It also takes a first step towards RGAA and RAWeb accessibility criteria, with work on keyboard navigation, page structure, contrast and screen reader support. Teclib notes this gives concrete support for accessibility requirements in public sector and healthcare tenders. The user documentation has been fully rewritten.

What to check before you upgrade

Teclib lists eight points: knowledge base visibility, plugin compatibility, monitoring of automatic actions, system requirements (PHP 8.3 and MariaDB 10.11 or MySQL 8.0), reverse proxy configuration, internal feeds and webhooks, inventory authentication, and OLA reports. None is difficult. All of them are easier to handle in a test environment than on a Monday morning.

How Echo-9 helps

Echo-9 is an official GLPI partner. We run GLPI 12 upgrades as a rehearsed project: a pre-migration check against those eight points, an upgrade of a copy of your data, a plan for knowledge base permissions and OLA reporting, and a supported go-live. We can also show your team what changes for them before it changes.

The best GLPI 12 upgrade is the one your users barely notice, apart from finding answers faster.
