National Health Charity

50 Staff · Limited Budget · No Dedicated IT Team

Enterprise Stack, Charity Pricing

From spreadsheets and free-tier tools to a fully managed professional IT operations platform.

The Challenge

This national health charity had 50 staff supporting a network of volunteer groups across the country. IT operations were managed on spreadsheets — asset tracking in one sheet, helpdesk requests in another, passwords in a shared document. Monitoring consisted of a free-tier Zabbix instance that nobody had time to maintain, and security was limited to whatever their antivirus vendor provided.

With no dedicated IT team, the charity relied on a part-time IT manager who was stretched thin. They needed professional ITSM, monitoring and security tools but could not justify the cost of enterprise vendors. Cyber Essentials certification was becoming a requirement for their government grants, and they had no way to evidence compliance.

The Solution — A Managed Roof Over IT

Echo-9 deployed a lightweight but complete version of the integrated stack, fully managed so the charity's small team could focus on their mission, not IT.

GLPI

Replaced spreadsheets for helpdesk and asset management. Staff self-service portal for logging IT issues, automated asset tracking for all laptops and devices, software licence management and a simple CMDB. Deployed as a managed cloud instance with no server overhead for the charity.

Zabbix

Replaced the neglected free-tier instance. Managed Zabbix monitoring covering the charity's small server fleet, Office 365 connectivity health and volunteer-facing web applications. Echo-9 handles all maintenance, so the part-time IT manager never needs to touch the console.

Wazuh

New capability deployed across all endpoints. File integrity monitoring for Cyber Essentials compliance, vulnerability detection, and automated compliance reporting that generates evidence packages ready for certification audits. Security alerts automatically create GLPI tickets.

"Before Echo-9, IT felt like we were trying to stay dry with a handful of broken umbrellas. Now we have a proper roof — someone else maintains it, and we just get on with our work. The Cyber Essentials audit took us two hours instead of two weeks."

The Future — Affordable Full-Stack Support

Because the integrated stack costs a fraction of equivalent proprietary tools, the charity was able to sign a fully managed support agreement from day one. Echo-9 handles all GLPI patching and updates, Zabbix proxy maintenance, Wazuh rule tuning and quarterly compliance reporting — giving the charity professional enterprise-grade IT operations at a price that fits their charitable budget.
